Create a Maestro Business Rule

Maestro allows you to create various business rules to implement a desired functionality into a Maestro form.

To create a business rule in a Maestro form, follow these steps:

  1. Open a Maestro form in the Maestro editor.
  2. Click the Properties tab.
  3. Click Create Rule as shown below.
  4. Select the type of rule you want to create from the Create Rule dialog.
  5. Configure the rule.
  6. Click Save to create the rule or Cancel to discard it. You can only create one rule of each type on each form field.

Configure a Maestro Business Rule

Once a business rule has been created for a Maestro form, you can to write some JavaScript to implement the rule. You can write it yourself, or you can use one of several Rule Helpers to create typo-free code. Rule Helpers are available inside the Rule Editor and allow you to pick fields from a tree structure, and then generate the chosen field name, or associated method calls into the editor source.

Double-click on an item in the tree to insert the field's data reference into the code pane where the cursor is currently located.

Right-click on an item in the tree to bring up the list of rule helpers applicable to that item type. Then select from the list to insert that templated rule code into the source, with the item data reference contained within it.

Once generated into the rule source, it is only now necessary to place a '!' in front of the generated code and the non-empty check code is complete.

To illustrate how to insert a 'data.department' text into the JavaScript, double-click the Department field in the tree, so it’s added to the code as shown below.
