Timeline Metrics
Timeline Metrics Description

All Txns

Displays an overview of all transactions that occurred during the selected time period using a bar chart.

Bounced Txn

Displays the number of transactions that were bounced during the selected time period.

Bounced transactions occur when an application (designed in Maestro, Composer or Open UX) is opened but closed before generating a start transaction event (user clicking or entering input into a field).

Started Txn

Displays the number of transactions started during the selected time period.

A transaction start event occurs when at least one text/number field is typed-in or at least one checkbox/drop down is clicked by the user.

Abandoned Txn

Displays the number of transactions that were abandoned during the selected time period.

Abandoned transactions occur when a transaction has one start event but the application is closed before it is completed and the user never returns to complete the transaction.

Completed Txn

Displays the number of transactions that were completed during the selected time period.

Transaction may have started but this metric represents when a user completes all mandatory fields and clicks submit.

Completion Rate

Displays the completion rate of the transactions during the selected time period.

Median Time

Displays the median time taken to be completed by each transaction during the selected time period.

All Transactions

The v18.11 screenshot below illustrates the All Transactions Bar Chart for all transactions from all applications (forms), aggregated by 1 day, within the last week, 19th March 2019 to 25th March 2019.

Components of the Timeline Analysis screen

The Timeline Analysis screen contains the following options:

  • Application (Form) Selection to select the application you want to analyze.
  • Time Period to select the timeframe you want to analyze. In v18.05 you will need to use the Global Filter Panel to do this.
  • Metric Selection to select the metric that you want to analyze.
  • Aggregated By dropdown to set the blocks of time the chart will be broken up by. In v18.11 this is done automatically.
  • Split dropdown for you to split the results based on a browser, device, application version, operating system or space (not applicable for All Txns). In v18.11 the Split is available from the Global Filter Panel.
Application Selection

The Timeline Analysis screen allows you to analyze one or more applications (forms) at the same time.

Period

The Timeline Analysis screen displays the time period selected.

Metric

The Timeline Analysis screen allows you to select only one metric to be analyzed at a time.

Aggregated By

The v18.05 Timeline Analysis screen allows you to set the Aggregated By value. The Aggregated By value will break the graph up into blocks of either minutes, hours, days or weeks. For example, if your set time period is 12 weeks, you may want to aggregate the data by one week periods. For each of the time periods available from the Global Filter Panel, there are several Aggregated By options available for you to choose from. The table below illustrates these Aggregated By options.

Time Period Aggregated By Options

1 day

15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours

1 week

1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day

2 weeks

4 hours, 1 day

4 weeks

4 hours, 1 day

8 weeks

4 hours, 1 day

12 weeks

1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks

1 year

1 week, 2 weeks, 30 days

2 years

1 week, 2 weeks, 30 days

Custom

Variable depending on Time Frame Selection

The Aggregated By value that you select will depend on the time frame you are analyzing. For instance, it makes sense to aggregate a 1-day period by 15-minute time periods, but for a period of 1 year, an Aggregated By value of 30 days (1 month) makes more sense.

Split

The Split dropdown in v18.05 allows you to split the results based on a browser, device, application version, operating system or space (not applicable for All Txns).

Export

 |   v18.05 & Earlier This feature is related to v18.05 and earlier.

The v18.05 screenshot includes an Export button to download the displayed data into a CSV file for further analysis. The CSV file will be located in the default download folder set for the browser. All filters that are applied to the current view are also applied to the exported data.

 |   v18.11 & Higher This feature is related to v18.11 and higher.

The v18.11 screenshot does not include an Export button as there is a new Data Export feature available from the Feature Navigation Panel, which has been purpose built for filtering the required data and downloading a CSV file for further analysis.

Displays

The Timeline Analysis screen also contains the following displays:

  • Timeline Analysis Chart
  • Bar Chart Legend
  • Timeline Analysis Table
Timeline Analysis Chart
v18.11 onwards v18.05 and earlier

The Timeline Analysis Chart plots the selected metric against the selected time period.

In the above example, in v18.05, the selected metric is All Txns, and the selected time period is 19 Mar 2018 - 25 Mar 2018, and the time period has been aggregated into one day periods.

Bar Chart Legend
v18.11 onwards v18.05 and earlier

Under the chart is a legend that indicates what each of the colors represents.

Timeline Analysis Table
v18.11 onwards v18.05 and earlier

The Timeline Analysis Table displays an overview of transaction statistics for the selected application/s. Each row of the table represents one application.

The following statistics are presented in the Timeline Analysis Table:

  • All Transactions started
  • All Bounced Transactions
  • Transactions Completed
  • Transaction Completion Rates
  • Median Times
  • Average Sessions

These results are the combined totals of each statistic. For instance, in v18.05, 2,814 transactions were started in the Loan Application, and of those transactions, 1,973 bounced.

Bounced Transactions

When you select the Bounced Transactions metric the Timeline screen displays.

The v18.05 Timeline Analysis screen above displays the Bounced Transactions. To make the chart more readable, both axes have been aggregated. In v18.05 you can select the period to aggregate by, however this is automatic in v18.11.

Export

 |   v18.05 & Earlier This feature is related to v18.05 and earlier.

Click on the Export button to download the displayed data into a CSV file for further analysis.

The CSV file will be located in the default download folder set for the browser. All filters that are applied to the current view are also applied to the exported data.

 |   v18.11 & Higher This feature is related to v18.11 and higher.

V18.11 does not include an Export button as there is a new Data Export feature available from the Feature Navigation Panel, which has been purpose built for filtering the required data and downloading a CSV file for further analysis.

Timeline Analysis Split

 |   v18.05 & Earlier This feature is related to v18.05 and earlier.

In v18.05 the Timeline Analysis Split is available to split your results. In other words, using a split will allow you to view results based on the devices or software that your users have used to complete transactions.

Using the split operation will create a separate curve in the Timeline Analysis Chart for each of the 'classes' in the selected split option. As well as this curve, a separate row for each individual class associated with the selected Split Option will be added to the Timeline Analysis Table. The table below identifies each of the available split options and the classes associated with each option.

Split Option Classes

Browser

Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge

Device Type

Mobile Phone, Tablet, Desktop

Version

If more than one application has been selected, this option splits the results by application. If only one application is selected, this option splits by version.

Operating System

Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS X, Linux

Space

Selected Space from the Global Filters

This Split operation is performed by selecting a Split option from the Split dropdown menu. Selecting a Split option will automatically load the Classes associated with the selected Split. This selection will add an individual curve to the Timeline Analysis Chart for each individual class, and an individual row for each of the classes associated with the selected Split option to the Timeline Analysis Table.

Device Type Split

The v18.05 screenshot below displays the Device Type split option. In this screenshot, there are four curves on the chart, a green curve illustrating completed transactions made using a desktop device, an orange curve illustrating completed transactions made using a game console, a blue curve illustrating completed transactions made using a mobile device and a purple curve illustrating completed transactions made using a tablet. The Timeline Analysis table has also been updated to include five rows, where each row documents the statistics associated with each device.

Note

Unknown could indicate a bounced transaction (where the browser was exited before the session payload could be sent to Journey Analytics), or a user agent string is sent that could not be deciphered. In most cases, however, many bots/crawlers produce the Unknown result as they may not be executing JS on the page, and as a result, no session information is received from the browser.

Operating System Split

The v18.05 screenshot below displays the Operating System split option. This split option presents timeline statistics based on the operating system that was running on the device that was used by the user.

This screenshot presents seven unique curves, a green curve illustrating completed transactions achieved using Android, an orange curve illustrating completed transactions made using Chrome OS, an blue curve illustrating completed transactions made using Linux, a purple curve illustrating completed transactions made using Mac OS X, a yellow curve illustrating completed transactions made using Sony PlayStation, a red curve illustrating completed transactions made using Windows and another green curve illustrating completed transactions made using iOS.

The screenshot also shows that the majority of completed transactions during this time period were achieved through devices running Android, and the period between 19 February and 25 February saw the largest number of completed transactions.
